The DevOps Alternative

In a previous article, “There’s Always a Problem”, I described situations that can arise with the “Engineering vs. Operations” old way. The new way is a DevOps culture..

If you haven’t read “The Phoenix Project“[1] or “Effective DevOps“[2], you need to.

DevOps is more than just the tools, it’s a whole new way of doing things. It’s also not the same thing as SRE. A quote from “Site Reliability Engineering“[3]:

“One could view DevOps as a generalization of several core SRE principles to a wider range of organizations, management structures, and personnel.”

It’s a culture, a set of values, mindset, a way to achieve accelerated development in a blameless, more cooperative environment.

An interesting quote:

Train people well enough so they can leave, treat them well enough so they don’t want to.
